1000 Feuilles – Philippe OBLIGER

Within the framework of Vivacity

Philippe OBLIGER 1000 Feuilles, 2018

On the occasion of the closing ceremony for the Vivacité exhibition, a special art performance took place within Apollonia’s main hall.

On the 28th of September 2018, Philippe Obliger, artist also behind the piece « Sang pour cent cotons », offered his services once again for a new project, realized this time with the help of the children from the European School. Thus was born on a blank wall a green mural, made entirely out of Eucommia Ulmoides leaves, a chinese tree species whose leaves are well known by pharmacists for their large amount of resin gutta percha stored inside.

Even when torn apart, the high quantity of resin in the leaves allows the torn pieces to remain together, creating an optical illusion as if the different pieces were floating.

We’d like to give our thanks to Philippe Obliger, whose help and interest in the garden and in the Vivacité exhibition were of great help, and to the European School for their role in the making of the mural.
