Demosthenes Davvetas, performance, 2004

Demosthenes Davvetas is a versatile artist: short-story writer, poet, art theoretician, painter, philosopher, boxer, performer… His varied background means that he in particularly attentive to interdisciplinary dialogue. But the very concept of artist is also based on the fact that human beings naturally have diverse creative faculties and that modern society is run through with multi expressivity. Therefore, in his view, boxing is a perfect companion for painting or dancing, just as the circus is for poetry. Davvetas thus shows us his dedication to the notion of “Total Art”, which he refers to as “Total Writing”, inasmuch as, in his view, all creation leaves a “legible” trace.

During the European University 2004 “On criticism…”, the works of Demosthenes Davvetas were exposed at the apollonia venue, the Zoo Gallery and at the State University Library of Strasbourg. He also presented a number of performances.
