ECONOMOU YIANNOS

Born in 1959, Paphos. Lives and works in Paphos.


After working as an accountant for some years in London, he studied Fine Arts at the KIAD, graduating in 1993.

He mainly uses video, but also film and photography as his media of expression.

His themes come from his personal milieu, investigating time and space as experienced in contemporary society, especially, in view of escalating technological advances in shifting ideological landscapes.

From 2000 to 2003, he collaborated with Dance Group Echo Arts, combining video and dance and producing video pieces such as “Fire” and “Seascape”.

He has shown his work in private and group shows in Cyprus and abroad, like the Hamburg Phototriennale in 2002, “Open Horizons” in Nicosia, 2003, “Somatopia” in London, 2005, “Telling Stories” in Patras 2006, and others. His latest short film, “The Machine Dream”, won the best experimental film award at the Cyprus Short Film Festival (2005).
