Born in Poznan in 1939.
He is a photographer, a video artist and art historian. He teaches cinema theory at the Lódz School of Cinema and is also one of the leading figures in the Polish experimental school. In 1970, he co-founded the Film Form Workshop, the largest avant-garde filmographical organization in Poland. Since the 70s, he has been involved in staging what he himself refers to as “videoperformances”. The performances revolve around the relationship between the camera as object and the body of the artist. With respect to, Józef Robakowski is interested in the creating new possibilities in connection with other disciplines, the goal being to push back the limits of the various genres.
